PDF forms, photo redaction, longer chains

Fill in and create PDF forms in PDF Studio, hide parts of photos with Redact Image, split recordings at pauses, add intros and outros with Insert Clips, and build chains that sort pieces into folders. Available for Apple silicon Macs and Windows x64.

Added

  • Fill in PDF forms right on the page in PDF Studio. Click a field to type, tick checkboxes, and pick dropdown and radio button choices, then save a copy with your answers.
  • Create fillable PDFs in PDF Studio's new Forms tab. Place text fields, long answers, checkboxes and dropdowns, set labels, required answers, defaults and tab order, and preview the form before you save. Form edits can be undone and stay in the draft when you reopen it.
  • Redact Image hides faces, names and numbers in photos and screenshots. Draw boxes and choose blur, pixelate or a solid colour. Photo info is removed by default, so nothing hidden can leak through it.
  • Split Audio cuts long recordings into parts at natural pauses, by length or by number of parts.
  • Insert Clips adds your saved intro, a clip in the first pause, and an outro to your videos in one step.
  • Chains can now split files into pieces, keep working on every piece, and finish by organizing the results into folders.
  • Ten more tools work as chain steps: Redact PDF, Sign, Trim Video, Trim Audio, Video Captions, Device Mockup, Beautify Shot, Stamp, Stylize and Vectorize Image.
  • More ready-made starter chains, including podcast clean-up, short clips and lecture parts.
  • Compress PDF has a new Maximum preset for the smallest file to read on screen. It turns print colours into screen colours, turns scanned text pages into crisp black and white, and removes bookmarks and accessibility tags. PDF/A files lose their archive status. Each step can be switched off under Maximum steps.

Improved

  • Organize is redesigned. Sort files into folders right where they are or into another folder, sort photos and videos by the date they were taken, save your setups as presets, and see how many files land in each folder before anything moves.
  • PDF Studio has one Edit mode for text, text boxes and shapes, with controls for alignment, colour, bold and italic. Your changes save on their own.
  • PDF compression now also shrinks images with transparency, print-colour (CMYK) images, JPEG 2000 scans and content repeated across merged documents. Slide decks, design exports and screenshot-heavy documents often come out several times smaller at the same quality.
  • Add a step at the very start of a chain, and drag steps to reorder them.
  • The Metadata tool can now save title, author, subject, keywords and dates into PDF copies.
  • Resize shows how Fill looks on an example photo before you add your own image.

Fixed

  • PDF Studio text boxes: you can always keep typing after clicking the page, new boxes keep your last text size, and pressing Enter in a small box no longer stops it from saving.
  • If Hangar can't confirm your license in the background, it now checks again when you run a tool, and the License screen says why it is locked with a Check now button.
  • Hangar comes to the front when you drop files on it, so your first drag on a Studio works right away.
  • Organizing, inserting or extracting pages in a PDF with fillable fields now explains why it can't, instead of silently removing the fields.

Faster, reliable caption exports

Captioned videos export much faster, no longer run out of memory on longer clips, and vertical videos stay upright. Available for Apple silicon Macs and Windows x64.

Fixed

  • Captioned videos export much faster and no longer stop with "Cannot allocate memory" on longer clips. This affected Korean captions and every animated caption style.
  • Vertical phone videos stay upright when you export them with captions, instead of turning sideways.
  • In animated caption styles, the highlighted word now follows along on every caption page, not only the first.

  • Find any tool by describing what you want. Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and type something like "make my PDF smaller to email it".
  • Add the optional Smart search to find tools in any wording and in more than 50 languages. It's a one-time 127 MB download, and your searches stay on your device.
  • Trim audio the way you trim video. Audio Trim now opens in Trim Studio, where you can edit by transcript, remove silences automatically, zoom the timeline, and preview your cuts exactly as they will export.
  • Caption Studio now shows and exports Korean captions.

Improved

  • A new Studios home. Drop a file to open it in the right Studio, see every Studio side by side, and browse recent files as a grid or a list.
  • Every audio format Hangar accepts, including FLAC, WMA and Ogg, now plays in previews, with accurate seeking.
  • Tool cards keep each description on one line, and show the full text on hover when the window is narrow.
  • Clearer tool descriptions throughout Home.

Fixed

  • Removing silences from long recordings on Windows no longer fails with "os error 206".
