Product roadmap

What we are working on next.

Hangar already includes more than 70 local tools. This roadmap shows the major product work and smaller improvements we plan to build next, in priority order.

Major releases

The release order.

Office support and an MCP server come next. Image Studio and Video Studio come after the shared editing foundation is ready, then Hangar Share puts the finished work online.

One active release at a time
  1. B101
    Next

    Office bridge

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint stop bouncing off.

Why this comes hereReal work does not arrive as PDFs. Until Word, Excel, and PowerPoint open, half of a normal folder is off limits.

    What it adds
    • Convert Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to PDF, a folder at a time
    • Turn a PDF back into an editable Word document
    • Standardise a stack of mixed documents in one pass, with nothing leaving your machine
  2. B202
    Planned

    MCP server

Let agents use Hangar, without giving up local control.

Why this comes hereOnce the core document formats work end to end, Hangar can expose those jobs as a dependable local interface for AI tools. The same private workflows then work by hand, in chains, or through an agent.

    What it adds
    • Expose Hangar tools through a local Model Context Protocol server
    • Let compatible AI clients discover tools, understand their inputs, and run them with structured results
    • Keep files and processing on the machine, with clear approval before an agent starts a job
    • Return progress, errors, and output locations in a form agents can reliably act on
    • Support complete multi-step workflows by composing the same chains available in the app
  3. B303
    Planned

    Image Studio

Design one. Apply it to five hundred.

Why this comes hereBatch only helps once you know what you want. This is where you decide, on one file, and then let Hangar do it five hundred times.

    What it adds
    • Layers, text, and shapes on a real canvas
    • Save what you designed as a chain, then run it across a whole folder
    • Point it at a spreadsheet and get one finished asset per row
    • Brand colours, logos, and fonts wired through every template
  4. B404
    Planned

    Video Studio

The editing most people actually need.

Why this comes hereVideo is the slowest work our users do and the hardest to do without renting something. It gets the most build behind it, and it comes after Image Studio so it is built on ground that already holds.

    What it adds
    • One timeline: trim, join, reframe, caption, export
    • Reframe wide video to vertical with a crop that follows the subject
    • The captions and transcript cuts you already make in Caption Studio and Trim Studio, on the same timeline
  5. B505
    Planned

    Hangar Share

Finished work, in front of the people who need it.

Why this comes hereEvery other release prepares files on your machine. Share is the step after that, and the one part of Hangar that uses the cloud, so it comes once the work it publishes is already good. It only sends the files you choose to share.

    What it adds
    • Send big files as one link, on a page with your logo and colours, that expires on its own
    • Publish galleries, courses, press kits, podcasts, and document libraries as pages people can browse
    • Video, audio, PDFs, and images each get a proper viewer, not a list of file names
    • Pages stay online for as long as you keep them, and you choose who can open each one
    • Storage is included with your plan, with no subscription

Supporting roadmap

Tools and improvements.

Smaller work lands in the gaps between the major releases, so it is grouped by what kind of change it is rather than by when it arrives.

New tools

Jobs Hangar cannot do at all today.

8 items
  • Fill PDF forms

Fill and flatten form fields, a spreadsheet row at a time.

  • PDF templates

Invoices, proposals, and certificates from templates that know your brand, one PDF per spreadsheet row.

  • Repair a damaged PDF

Rebuild a file that other apps refuse to open.

  • Flatten a PDF

Fix annotations and form fields into the page for good.

  • Duplicate finder

Catches resized and re-saved copies, not just identical bytes.

  • Noise reduction

Hiss, hum, room noise, and echo out of a recording or a video soundtrack, on your own machine.

  • Video redact

Blur faces, number plates, and on-screen text in a video, tracked from frame to frame.

  • Audio bleep

Bleep or mute names and swear words, found for you in the transcript.

Finishing the Create set

Named in the tool list and not built yet. These arrive with the Image Studio.

7 items
  • Data merge

One design plus a spreadsheet, out comes one finished asset per row.

  • Social card

Laid-out social and link-preview images from a template.

  • App Store screenshots

Turn product screens into a polished, branded App Store set at every required size.

  • Brand sheet

Your colours, fonts, and logo as a single page to hand over.

  • Pattern and texture

Seamless tiles built from your own palette.

  • Watermark tile

Repeating marks for documents and proofs.

  • Placeholders

Filler images at any size, on brand rather than grey.

More platforms

Bring the same local toolbox to more of the computers people already use.

1 item
  • Linux support

A native Linux build, with packaging and hardware support tested before release.

Changes to existing tools

No new icon in the list. Real changes to things you already use.

6 items
  • Split PDF by what is on the page

Split PDF learns to cut on a blank page, a barcode, or matching text. One scanned stack in, one file per invoice out, named from the page.

  • Copy text from any area

Drag a box over a scan in PDF Studio and get the text, without recognising the whole page.

  • Page numbers in PDF Studio

Number pages from the same view where you already sign and reorder them.

  • Remove background, then replace it

Remove background can already fill with a flat colour. Next it drops the subject onto a gradient or an image of your own.

  • Sort and route by what is inside

File a scan by the words on the page, not just its name and type.

  • Compress PDF keeps getting smaller

Ongoing work on the structural pass, with no loss of quality.
