How it works
Drop the PDFs you want to cut. Every file in the queue is split with the same settings.
Each page, Every N pages for documents of the same length, or Ranges such as 1-2, 3-8, 9-12 for documents that differ.
Pieces are saved as report-p5.pdf or report-1-3.pdf, in page order. If a file fails, its pieces are removed, so you never get half a set.

Choose how to cut
All three keep the pages in order, with their highlights and notes. They differ only in how the pieces are drawn up.
Groups of the same size, with what is left in the last file.
Best for two-page invoices or one-page certificates.
One PDF for every page.
Best for scans of single-page forms and receipts.
One PDF for each range you type, like 1-3, 4-8, 12.
Best for chapters and documents of different lengths.

The alternative
A website works for one file you are happy to upload. Splitting is often a batch job, though, and the files are often invoices and statements.

Who uses it

Cut a long reader into one PDF per week or chapter for your students.
Turn one long scan from the office copier into a file per document.
One app, one payment
The same app merges, splits, signs, redacts and reads scanned PDFs, and does the same kind of work for images, video and audio. One payment covers every tool.
Save it as a chain
Split the combined PDF. Then compress the pieces and give them clear names with Batch Rename.
How chains workEvery tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.
Not in Split PDF. Pieces are named after their pages, such as report-p5.pdf. Use Batch Rename afterwards to give them a pattern of your own.
The pages themselves are not shrunk, and the pieces can add up to more than the original. Run Compress PDF on the pieces to make them smaller.
Yes. Enter ranges like 1-3, 4-8, 12 and each becomes its own file, in order.
Yes. Highlights, notes, and stamps stay on the pages they belong to. Bookmarks are not carried into the pieces, and fillable form fields may no longer be fillable, although what was typed stays visible.
Each file is named by its page or range, so a five-page split is easy to tell apart at a glance.
No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.
