Turn a messy folder into tidy subfolders by file type, month, or your own rules. A live tree shows where every file will land before anything moves, and the latest run can be undone. Your files never leave your computer.

From the recording
12 files went in and Hangar wrote 12 files. It is the same run as in the recording, with the real names and sizes. Your originals are never changed.

How it works
Hangar sorts the files at its top level and leaves folders already inside it alone.
File type, month, type and month, or only your rules by name, extension, date, size or regular expression.
See every destination folder first, then move the files or make organized copies. Name clashes get a safe suffix.
New to Hangar? How to run a tool, step by step
Choose the structure
The structure decides the folders every file lands in. Rules catch the exceptions first, like invoices or very large videos, and send them where you want or leave them in place.
Images, PDFs, videos and the rest, each in its own folder.
Best for downloads folders and mixed deliveries.
One folder per month, from each file’s modified date.
Best for records, receipts and ongoing projects.
Months inside each type folder.
Best for busy project folders that grow all year.
Every setting, explained in the Sort & route guide Where folders go · Group into folders by · Originals · Special cases · Live preview
The alternative
Dragging a dozen files into folders is quick and free. It is the hundredth file, and the rule you forgot, that make it slow.
Who uses it
Split months of downloads into images, PDFs, videos and the rest in one run.
Route clips, stills and audio from a shoot into their own folders, with the originals kept.
Hangar for video and social creatorsSend every file with invoice in its name to the right folder while everything else sorts by month.
One app, one payment
The same app zips, unzips, renames and sorts whole folders, and handles your PDFs, images, video and audio too. One payment covers every tool.
A typical routine
Sort a project folder by type, give the files consistent names, then pack them up for handoff.
Every tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.

No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.
