Get big recordings under an email, chat or upload limit. Pick a quality, or type a size like 25 MB and Hangar lands just under it. Each video keeps its format, and nothing leaves your computer.

From the recording
1 file went in and Hangar wrote 1 file. It is the same run as in the recording, with the real names and sizes. Your originals are never changed.

How it works
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and M4V all work, and each file keeps its own format.
Smaller file with Light, Balanced or Strong, or Target size to fit under a number of MB.
Scaling to 1080p, 720p or 480p saves the most space. If a file cannot get meaningfully smaller, Hangar keeps your original.

Choose the trade-off
Smaller file mode trades quality for size in three steps. Target size works the other way round: you name the size and Hangar finds the quality. Lowering the resolution saves more than either.
High quality at a much smaller size.
Best for most videos and everyday sharing.
Smaller still, and slower to make.
Best for long recordings and tight storage.
Lands just under the size you type.
Best for hard limits on email, chat and upload forms.

The alternative
HandBrake is free, open source and very capable, and if you already know it, it does this job well. Hangar is for when you want a size, not a page of settings.
Who uses it
Shrink 4K exports before they go to a client portal or over a slow connection.
Hangar for video and social creatorsBring recorded lessons under the upload limit of your school’s learning system.
Get a screen recording of a bug under the attachment limit of a ticket or a chat.
One app, one payment
The same app trims, converts, compresses and captions video and audio, and does the same kind of work for PDFs and images. One payment covers every tool.
Save it as a chain
Drop a batch of screen recordings and each one comes out silent, smaller and cleanly named, in one run.
How chains workEvery tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.
Compress when the file is too big and the format is fine. Convert when it has to become a different format, like MOV to MP4. A chain can do both in one run.
Yes. Set a target in MB and Hangar computes the bitrate so the result lands just under it, typically within a small margin.
Scaling the resolution down. Dropping a 4K clip to 1080p or 720p is the single biggest lever, often more than the quality preset alone.
That clip stops with a message giving the smallest size Hangar can reach for it, so you never get an unusable file.
No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.
Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
Then pay once, from $45, for every tool and the updates for your version. No subscription. 30-day refund.See plans
