macOS and Windows. Your files stay on your computer.

Add audio to video on your Mac or PC. Kept offline.

Lay music, narration or a sound effect onto a video, replacing the original sound or mixing under it. Set each volume, loop a short track, fade the edges, and score a whole batch with one track. The picture is never re-encoded, and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

How to add music to a video on Mac or Windows

  1. Drop videos and a track

MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and M4V videos, plus the music, narration or effect to add.

  2. Choose Replace or Mix

Replace swaps the sound out. Mix lays the new track over the original, with a volume for each.

  3. Set the length and fades

Match video, Loop to fill or Longest, plus a start delay and fades. Trim the track by its edges in the Add Audio studio.

New to Hangar? How to run a tool, step by step

Choose how it sits

Swap the sound, or mix under it.

Replace and Mix decide what happens to the original sound. Length decides what happens when the track and the video don’t end together.

  • Replace

    Start here

    Only the new track plays.

Best for music over silent b-roll or noisy footage.

  • Mix

The new track under the original sound.

Best for background music under a voice.

  • Loop to fill

A short track repeats to the end.

Best for short loops under long videos.

The alternative

Why not add music with an online editor?

Online editors can add a song, and many come with a music library, which Hangar doesn’t have. You still upload the video, and the picture is usually re-encoded on the way out.

Questions

Before you download

More answers in the help center.

Is it really free?

Every tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.

Where do I get the music?

Hangar doesn’t include a music library. Use a track you own or have licensed, and Hangar adds it on your computer.

Can I start the track at a certain moment?

Yes. Delay the start with the offset, and in the Add Audio studio drag the track’s edges to use just the part you want.

Does this touch the picture?

No. The picture is copied as it is, so its quality and the file format are untouched. Only the sound changes.

Can I keep the original sound?

Yes. Mix mode layers the new track on top of the original with independent gain for each.

What if my track is shorter than the video?

Choose Loop to fill and the track repeats for the whole video. With Match video, the result stops when the track ends, so the video is cut short.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Does one license cover Mac and Windows?

Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
