Where the AI runs
Online upscalers want your photo on their servers, and often a credit per image. Hangar runs the upscaling models on your computer, as many times as you like.
A small or soft photo, artwork or screenshot. JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP.
Three upscaling models, about 28 MB together. They download once, then run offline.
A copy 2× or 4× larger, or at the long edge you set, with -upscaled in its name.
Upload to a serverNot part of the path. Your file and the result never leave this computer.
Pick a treatment, or let Auto choose
Picks the safest treatment for each image.
Best for: Mixed folders. It uses all three models.
Keeps clean photos natural.
Best for: Good photos that need more pixels.
Cleans compression and rebuilds detail.
Best for: Blurry, compressed or very small photos.
Keeps lines, flat color and type crisp.
Best for: Logos, illustrations and screenshots.
Sizes are the one-time downloads in the app. The models are checked after they download and stay on this computer.
Hard cases
An upscaler predicts the missing pixels. It does a lot for soft and small images, and it cannot bring back detail that was never in the file.
The run in the recording took a 480×600 product photo to 1920×2400.
Restore damaged photo cleans the blocks while it enlarges.
Hangar spots it and suggests Resize, which keeps every letter exact.
Detail there is predicted, not recovered. Check before you print.
How it works
JPG, PNG, WebP and BMP. Preview a close-up of any image before you run.
Auto chooses a treatment for each image. Pick 2x, 4x or an exact longest edge.
Keep the source format, or choose PNG, WebP or JPEG. Each file gets -upscaled added to its name.
New to Hangar? How to run a tool, step by step
Three treatments
Auto reads each image and picks one of three treatments, so a mixed batch of photos, logos and screenshots each gets what suits it. Not sure? Compare all three on one image first.
Clean photos enlarged without added texture.
Best for sharp originals that just need more pixels.
Blocky, compressed or tiny photos cleaned up.
Best for old web images and supplier thumbnails.
Lines, flat color and letter edges kept crisp.
Best for logos, illustrations and screenshots.

The alternative
Online upscalers are quick to try and some go bigger than 4x. They also mean uploading every image and paying in credits.
Who uses it
Enlarge the small images a supplier sent so they hold up on a product page.
Take a logo or illustration to 4x for a banner or a print file without blocky edges.
Bring years-old web images up to today’s screen sizes in one batch.
Hangar for marketers and content teamsOne app, one payment
The same app converts, compresses, resizes and cleans up photos, and does the same kind of work for PDFs, video and audio. One payment covers every tool.
Save it as a chain
Enlarge small supplier photos, cut the products out and bring the file sizes back down for your store, in one run.
How chains workEvery tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.
Restore damaged photo makes soft or compressed photos cleaner and sharper. It adds believable detail, but it cannot recover detail the original never captured.
Each treatment downloads once. Auto uses all three, about 26 MB in total, and then everything runs offline.
No. Each treatment you use downloads once, then the image is processed on your own computer.
The output is limited to 64 megapixels and 16,384 pixels on either edge.
No. Animated GIF and WebP inputs are rejected so Hangar never silently discards their animation.
No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.
Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
