The real run, file by file.

1 file went in and Hangar wrote 1 file. It is the same run as in the recording, with the real names and sizes. Your originals are never changed.

How it works

How to change video speed on Mac or Windows

  1. Drop one clip or hundreds

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and M4V all work.

  2. Pick a speed

Tap 0.25×, 0.5×, 1.5×, 2× or 4×, or set anything in between with the slider.

  3. Get retimed copies

At 2× a clip plays twice as fast in half the time, with the sound retimed and its pitch kept. Each saves as an MP4.

New to Hangar? How to run a tool, step by step

Choose the pace

Faster or slower. Voices still sound like people.

The audio is retimed with the picture and its pitch corrected, so a sped-up tutorial is easy to follow and a slowed moment doesn’t drone.

  • 0.5×

    Half speed, twice the length.

Best for showing a quick move or a key moment.

  • 2×

    Start here

Twice as fast, half the length.

Best for tutorials, demos and long screen recordings.

  • 4×

    A timelapse feel.

Best for setups, builds and process videos.

The alternative

Why not change the speed in a video editor?

Editors can ramp the speed and retime single moments, which Hangar doesn’t. For a flat 2× on a batch of recordings, that is a lot of clicking.

Questions

Before you download

More answers in the help center.

Is it really free?

Every tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.

Can I speed up just one part of a clip?

Not in one step. Speed applies to the whole clip, so cut the part out first with Trim or Split, change its speed, then put the clips back together with Join.

Do voices sound natural when sped up?

Yes. The pitch is corrected as the speed changes, so a sped-up voice still sounds like the person, not a chipmunk.

How fast or slow can it go?

From a quarter speed up to four times. At 2x the clip is half the length; at 0.5x it is twice as long.

Does the audio stay in sync?

Yes. The audio is retimed in step with the video, so they stay aligned.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Does one license cover Mac and Windows?

Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
