How it works

How to convert a PDF to images on Mac or Windows

  1. Add your PDFs

Drop one file or several. They are all exported with the same settings, one after another.

  2. Pick the format and resolution

PNG for text and line art, JPEG for photo pages. Click 72, 150 or 300 DPI, or type any value from 36 to 600.

  3. Get one image per page

Images are named like lookbook-p3.png. Leave Pages blank for every page, or type 1-3, 8 for just some.

Choose the resolution

Small previews or print quality, from the same PDF.

Resolution decides how many pixels each page gets. Click one of three common values or type your own, from 36 to 600 DPI.

  • 72 DPI

    About 612 × 792 pixels for a Letter page.

Best for thumbnails and quick previews.

  • 150 DPI

    Start here

    About 1275 × 1650 pixels, sharp on a laptop.

Best for websites, slides and anything read on screen.

  • 300 DPI

    About 2550 × 3300 pixels, print quality.

Best for print and zooming in on fine detail.

The alternative

Why not just take screenshots?

For one page in a hurry, a screenshot is fine. For a whole deck or a print-quality page, here is the difference.

Questions

Before you download

More answers in the help center.

Is it really free?

Every tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.

Is the text in the images searchable?

No. Every page becomes a flat picture. Keep the PDF if you need to search or copy the text.

Why are my images so large?

PNG at 300 DPI or more makes big files, especially for photo pages. Switch to JPEG, lower the resolution, or run Compress images on the results.

What resolution can I export at?

Anywhere from 36 to 600 DPI. 150 DPI reads well on screen and 300 DPI suits print.

PNG or JPEG?

Both. PNG keeps text and line art crisp, while JPEG makes smaller files for photo-heavy pages.

Can I export only some pages?

Yes. Give a range like 1-3,5, or leave it blank to turn every page into an image.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Does one license cover Mac and Windows?

Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
