How it works

How to vectorize an image on Mac or Windows

  1. Drop your logos or drawings

PNG, JPG, still WebP and BMP work. Add one image or many to the studio.

  2. Check the automatic trace

Compare the original and the SVG side by side, zoomed in. Change Detail, or open Fine tune to set the artwork type and colors.

  3. Export every SVG

Each image is traced with its own settings and saved as an SVG made of real paths you can edit.

Choose the detail

Compact, Balanced or Detailed. Always real paths.

Every traced edge and color becomes path data, so detail and file size move together. The studio shows the shape count and size before you export.

  • Compact

Fewer shapes, a small SVG that is easy to edit.

Best for icons and simple marks.

  • Balanced

    Start here

A close match without a heavy file.

Best for most logos and flat artwork.

  • Detailed

    Keeps the most geometry.

Best for illustrations and posters with fine lines.

The alternative

Why not use Image Trace in Illustrator?

Illustrator is a full vector editor, and if you already pay for it, its trace is close at hand. If you only need clean SVGs, it is a lot of app to rent.

Questions

Before you download

More answers in the help center.

Is it really free?

Every tool is free for 3 days, with no account and no card. After that, Hangar is a one-time payment from $45, with updates for the version you buy. There is no subscription.

Do I need to download anything?

No. The standard trace is built in. An optional AI Regions setting for illustrations is a one-time download of about 40 MB.

Does it work on photos?

It works, but a photo turns into many small shapes and a large file. Vectorizing suits logos, icons, line art and flat illustrations best.

Is the SVG actually editable?

Yes. Hangar writes SVG paths, rather than placing the original image inside an SVG wrapper. You can open the result in a vector editor and adjust the shapes, fills, and nodes.

Which artwork type should I pick?

Hangar picks one for each image. To change it, open Fine tune: use Logo or icon for flat marks, Line art or sketch for black or simple single-color drawings, Illustration or poster for colored artwork with distinct fills, and Photo when the source has shading and softer curves.

Why is my SVG large?

Every traced edge and color region becomes path data. Use fewer colors or Compact detail to simplify the drawing and reduce the file size. The studio reports the path count and size before you export.

Can I trace HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, or GIF files?

Convert those files to PNG first. Vectorize accepts still JPG, PNG, WebP, and BMP images so it does not silently flatten animation or mishandle less predictable image formats.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your computer and never sent anywhere. Hangar sends anonymous usage counts to improve the app, never file names or contents, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Does one license cover Mac and Windows?

Yes. A license works on any mix of Mac and Windows computers. Solo covers 1 computer, Crew 3 and Fleet 10.
